More than ever, cyber security is a top priority for most businesses, with roles such as security architect and security analysts becoming common positions in many organisations, across a broad range of sectors.
Now 58,000 people work in cyber security related roles in the UK, according to Tech Partnership's recent cyber security factsheet, a 160 percent rise since 2011.
The data, drawn from IT Jobs Watch and the Office of National Statistics puts information security, firewalls and network security at the top of the list for sought after skills. Meanwhile Cisco, Windows, Linux and Checkpoint have been noted as attractive 'tools' needed in cyber security job roles.
But what roles are the most in-demand? What cyber security job pays the most? Read on to find out which cyber security jobs are most in demand in the UK in 2017.

1. Top cyber security jobs: Security analysts

A security analyst will prepare, plan and carry out tests to ensure an organisation's network and system are able to protect itself against malicious attacks.
Top of the list for most advertised position over the past year is security analyst, or more specifically information security analyst.
Demand for information security analysts has increased by 295 percent since 2011 with 310 advertised job openings for this type of role in each of the past four quarters.
But while the most advertised security analyst role is information security analysts, the highest growth has been seen by SOC (security operation centre) analysts, increasing from 10 adverts in 2011 to 90 in 2016 per quarter.
The average annual rate of pay advertised in the UK is £47,500.
2. Top cyber security jobs: Security consultants

Security consultants aim to design security solutions depending on particular business needs. Security consultants will have to think of every eventuality, ensuring that the best security software is in place.
Under the 'security consultant' umbrella, information security consultant was the most sought after role by UK businesses.
Between the third quarter of 2015 and the second quarter of 2016, 200 Information security consultants roles were advertised boasting a 52 percent rise since 2011.
In addition, network security consultants witnessed 90 advertised job openings, resulting in a growth of 120 percent over the past five years.
The average annual rate of pay advertised in the UK is £60,000.
3. Top cyber security jobs: Security engineers

Security engineers focus on the design of a business' security systems, ensuring that they are designed to block or react quickly to disruption such as cyber attacks and malicious activities.
The security engineer title houses numerous job roles, including one of the most sought after by UK employers. Infrastructure engineers have undergone a massive growth period with demand for this role increasing by 617 percent over the past five years.
Network (security) engineers also received a boost in job openings with 590 job listings in each quarter over the last year with demand increasing by 139 percent in five years.
The average annual rate of pay advertised in the UK is £51,600.

4. Top cyber security jobs: Security managers

Security managers aim to provide a secure procedures, from policy-led best practised to supervising security tests and software installations.
Over the past five years, security management positions have increased by 138 percent, with project management roles within the security management bracket increasing by 231 percent since 2011.
In terms of actual job advertisements, the role of information (security) manager was the most advertised, posting 330 job openings during each quarter over the past year.

5. Top cyber security jobs: Security architects

A security architect is responsible for updating and maintaining an organisation's security programmes, as well as anticipating potential threats by keeping up to date with current threat trends.
Following the current trend, the most in-demand security architects role centre on the 'information' aspect of security.
The role of information security architect has increased by 269 percent over the past five years, with enterprise architect following a similar path with a reported growth of 137 percent since 2011.

6. Top cyber security jobs: Security officers and administrators

An entry-level security officer will provide support for the security procedures and software in place and tackle its day to day running. Senior positions such as CISOs (chief information security officers) is responsible for creating an enterprise-led security strategy to ensure all security software and processes are protected.
Over the past year, 150 information security officer jobs were advertised in each quarter.

7. Top cyber security jobs: Security tester and penetration tester

Testers are responsible for locating flaws in code and security software through robust testing. Exploiting these vulnerabilities will help organisation's future-proof their businesses and patch up any security holes.
Testing positions were noted as in-demand positions, with particular focus centring on penetration testers and security testers. Since 2011, penetration tester job opening have increased 123 percent in five years with the general security tester role has grown by 120 percent since 2011.
